Star symbols are the decoration people reach for when writing a username, a bio, or a heading that needs to stand out. There are two useful groups. The plain text stars — ★ ☆ ✦ ✧ ✩ and the rest of the ✪–✰ family — are single characters that take the colour of the surrounding text, so they blend into a name or a line of writing and stay readable at small sizes. The emoji stars ⭐ ✨ 🌟 are pictures: they render in full colour, take more space, and are more eye-catching but less subtle. For a decorated username, the plain ones almost always look better; for a chat message or a caption, the emoji ones read faster.
